A crazy day may have just got a little bit crazier.
Frank Mir confirmed earlier today on his ‘Phone Booth Fighting’ podcast that he has been granted his release from the UFC.

Also on the podcast, Mir confirmed he wants a showdown with the Russian legend, Fedor Emelianenko in his first fight back.
“Outside of the UFC, that would be one of the more popular or notable fights that could occur,” Mir said regarding a fight with Fedor. “If you look at the attention that was just drawn upon Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva, you know Wanderlei Silva hasn’t even fought in three years and it’s still something that caught peoples attention without Wanderlei really doing any media to promote the fight.
“I think Fedor any myself, outside the UFC would probably be one of the biggest, if not the biggest name fights that you could create right now.”
MMAUno.com reached out to Mir’s representatives for comment.
“We can confirm that Frank has been released from his UFC contract,” the spokesperson said. “Both parties were happy with the severance deal and Frank and the UFC leave on good terms. Frank is interested in pursuing a fight with Fedor Emelianenko, but no talks have taken place between Frank or any organisation.
“ACB has matching rights for Frank’s first fight outside of the UFC and have confirmed they’re interested in working with Frank as an active competitor. You should not expect to see Frank fighting before April 2018.”
We will update our report when we have further news.
