In a shocking turn of events this evening, Demetrious Johnson x Ray Borg has been scrapped from UFC 215 following the challenger falling ill.

The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting who reported that Borg had been battling illness all week and that the illness was unrelated to his weight cut.

Borg has had difficulties making weight in his previous four fights and has missed weight twice, once by 3.5-pounds. His nutrionist has spoken out to deny that the illness was unrelated to his weight cut.

The new main event for UFC 215 will be the UFC women’s bantamweight title fight between Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko.

Johnson was attempting this weekend to become the first man to successfully defend their title 12 times and own the record outright for most title defenses. He currently ties the record with Anderson Silva at 11.

This last minute cancellation comes after UFC President Dana White fought against Borg being the next title contender. White fought hard for Johnson to fight former UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, but Johnson refused the fight saying that he Dillashaw would have to prove himself first and that he wasn’t convinced that he would make the weight cut.

It’s not all eyes on the early morning weigh-ins tomorrow to see if Nunes and Shevchenko make weight and a title fight remains on the card.

More to come …
