Georges St-Pierre was barely an hour departed when UFC president Dana White announced his next opponent.

During the UFC 217 post-fight press conference, White heaped praise on St-Pierre and then stated that he expects the new UFC middleweight champion to unify his title with the existing interim middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker.

Whittaker of course on the title back at UFC 213 earlier this summer when he defeated Yoel Romero in Las Vegas.

White confirmed later that no official deal had been signed for St-Pierre vs Whittaker, but added it would be dependent on whether the damage he sustained would keep him on the sidelines for an extended period.
