Dean Garnett walked into the dragon’s den at the Sports hall Coliseum last evening and took on Magomed Magomedov in his own backyard at ACB 67 in Grozny, Russia.

Both men were looking to insert themselves into the ACB bantamweight title picture and both men opened up tentatively on the feet looking to get their range.

One minute into the bout, Garnett dropped Magomedov with right hand that found his mark straight down the middle. The Russian took it well though and he managed to make it back to his feet where he got his base back under him.

With half of the first round gone the Brit was taking the centre of the cage and pushing Magomedov’s back against the fence. Garnett then caught the Russian with a flying knee and follow up punch, but Magomedov then dropped Garnett with his own stinging punch.

Magomedov then looked to take Garnett’s neck, but the Liverpudlian scrambled out his predicament and made it back to his feet. Garnett then looked to take his man down, but in the process of doing so the Russian locked on a deep guillotine choke and Garnett fell to the mat.

With nowhere to go and Magomedov choking him with all his strength, Garnett tapped out.

It was an entertaining back and forth one round fight, but it was the Russian’s night in Grozny. After sharing the cage together for four minutes, the respect between the two fighters was evident for all to see.
